This is my entry for the Summer 2011 CSound Catalog Competition. My time was about evenly split between creating instruments (choosing sounds, rendering them from QuteCSound, trimming silence or normalizing (if necessary), and creating Reason instruments.) The other half was actual composition/sequencing. I used Reason 5, as I am extremely familiar with the sampler instrument parameters and I didn't want to use my time figuring out how to accomplish the same tasks with Kontakt (even if Kontakt is more versatile).

This is my 6h catalog composition.
All the instruments come from the catalog.
I edited the orchestra to shape the instruments the way I wanted (and trigger some of them via MIDI, others are sequenced in the Csound score section and then rendered from there).
Everything is edited/sliced in Logic. Some sounds (perhaps the bass only) are mapped in Kontakt. Drum kit is mapped in Battery.
No effects applied (besides a reverb from Csound).
I wish I'd have more time to make some modulations and fill the middle section with something, but I spent too much time creating the instruments.

Here is my one minute csound note list piece that I did for Dr. B's csound class.

Had to make a 6 hour composition with the csound catalog for Dr. B's csound class. Spent most of my time making instruments and by then I only had two hours left to make a composition. Definitely seems unfinished. Anyway, enjoy.

"Mystical" is a one-minute notelist composition. It exclusively uses csound instruments, including several incorporating the loscil opcode that draws from audio samples of music instrument sound designs created by csound developers who contributed to the Csound Catalog (by Mikelson and by Varga). Attached are the .mp3 file for "Mystical" as well as a commented .csd file (for informational purposes only, as the audio sample .aif files are not included). Also attached is a readme text file that includes additional background material about the piece. Enjoy!

I wrote this tune using only instruments from the Csound Catalog, the scores of which were edited, and then rendered to audio. The mixing was done, albeit quickly, using Ableton Live, with a few custom racks that I use for time-based effects.

I composed this piece using only Csound

For my six hour competition piece, I used Logic as my main DAW, Kontakt as my sampler, and Pro Tools for mixing. All sounds in this piece originate from the Csound Catalog.
