i really think that csound would be much better if it had a graphical editor like the nord modular or tassman. i think i can conceive of it being every bit as flexible as typing the code. hell, even if it were only one layer and i could still edit the code, or the p fields on the modules too.. i think maybe it should have a piano roll grid for timing, but that it should also have an option as to whether it's midi control or part of the score. i know i would use this program a ton if someone did this.

graphical editor
i think Blue (http://www.csounds.com/stevenyi/blue/) will meet the most of your commands. There are "VST" like instruments ready-made and, of course, you can always edit their code.
There is also a piano roll. You can use it to play notes from the score in a scale other than the one often used in the West. And you can sent out midinotes to your midi gear with it.
(Not yet possible is that you play your midi keyboard and the notes get recorded, but you could do a feature request)

re-graphical editor
no, i want to host csound as a VST (better yet as an AU) in Logic or Live. I've heard of csoundVST, but don't know where to get it or if it works well.

Maybe you mean a graphical patcher, but have you tried QuteCsound?
