CPU Usage and Real-Time Dynamic Sound?

I've been interested in Csound for sometime. And after learning the basic syntax I have become interested in using it for real-time dynamic sound within a game. Considering that most of the sounds would be short and/or dull, high quality isn't necessary the majority of the time. With that consideration, would it be more processor intensive than conventional methods of playing sound, and if so (as I would expect) how much more?
