Assembling the Commadore 64

This piece was written for the 6 Hour Contest in Dr. B's Csound class at Berklee. The piece was put together in six hours using sounds derived from the Csound Catalog. I used Peak to chop up samples, which I put in Reason's samplers. I sequenced it in Logic. I spent the first five and a half hours going back and forth between editing, rendering, and chopping instruments and composing. The last half hour was mixing.

The piece starts with flute, clarinet, and bass sounds, all of which were from Mikelson's physical modeling instruments. There is a drum loop throughout most of the piece, again taken from Mikleson. There are two pads underneath, which are time-stretched and filtered sounds taken from Cook and Lyon. Throughout much of the piece is a semi-random percussion patch playing. It was created in Reason and consists of small snippets from Mikelson's fractal instruments.

The title comes from the image it invoked in my wife's head.

Enjoy,
Mike Moser-Booth
