The Csound Catalog Tips:
- [+] The Csound Catalog is an HTML CD-ROM.
To use it you'll need to open the appropiate file with a browser:
- To use with Netscape open catalogn.html.
For Internet Explorer use cataloge.html.
Both should work on any browser that supports frames.
- [+] For better performance, copy the entire CD contents to a local drive.
That will make browsing the catalog easier and quicker.
- [+] Use your browser latest version.
We recommend Netscape or Microsoft's Internet Explorer
- go to Netscape Download Area
- go to Internet Explorer Download Area
- [+] Quicktime QDesign Music Encoder was used to compress the audio included
in the CD-ROM. To play the QDesign Audio Files you'll need the Quicktime Plug-in.
- The Plug-in is included with the latest versions of both Netscape and
Internet Explorer.
Quicktime 4 will play the Audio Files outside of a browser.
- go to Apple's Quicktime Download Area
- [+] Once you have the Quicktime Plug-in you must configure your browser so
that the plug-in plays the audio files.
- Simply installing Quicktime will make it the default player for audio,
but installing other plug-ins or applications can sometimes change this.
Then you'll need to make quicktime the default player of .mov files.

- Installing Quicktime on Windows will change the File Types Associations
for Macintosh files [ including pict and aiff files].
- click here for a step by step tutorial on how to revert this
- If after installation Quicktime doesn't work correctly on Windows you'll
need to manually check the .DDL files.

- [+] If you want, you can also configure your browser to work with Csound.
That way every time your browser finds a Csound file [.orc, .sco or .csd]
it will send it to Csound.
- The way to do this varies between browsers and operating systems.
Basically you want to change your browser Preferences to have Csound
as the Helper Application for MIME Type: Csound files.
File suffixes: .orc .sco .csd
The catalog includes the current versions of Csound for:
MacPPC/Linux/Windows/DirectX
- [+] [Linux]: We are currently working on a version exclusively for Linux.
- You may encounter a problem with the names of the pages of the catalog.
To fix it, you'll need to disable the default translation by the filesystem
of mixed case names into lower case: mount -t iso9660 -o map=off
- Currently there seems to be no Quicktime Plug-in for Linux.
The Quicktime For Linux Player is not yet able to play QDesign Audio files
It might eventually support it.
get the player at: [Quicktime4Linux]
- [+] [BeOS]: Currently there is no Quicktime Plug-In for BeOS.
However BeOS 4.5 or higher will play Quicktime and QDesign Audio Files.
- Go to [BeOS 4.5] Download Area
- Go to [BeOS] Updates Page
- [+] [Macintosh]: Be sure to have only one Perf in your hard drive.
CsoundPPC is inluded in the CD. If you copied the Catalog to your hard drive,
be aware that you also copied a new Perf.
- [+] [Windows]: You'll need Quicktime to play the Audio Files.
Windows Media Player won't be able to play QDesign Audio Files.
- go to Apple's Quicktime Download Area
- [+] [Windows][DOS]: Some Windows users have experienced problems recognizing
some of the files types included in the Catalog. Copying the Catalog contents to a local drive will usually
solve this.
There a small utility called Copyto that's designed for this task.
Copyto
will also help some Csound Book owners to copy the book CD's to a local drive.
